Advocating for Property Rights and Homeownership
This week, I had the opportunity to spend two days in Columbia at the South Carolina State House attending the South Carolina Realtors Legislative Meetings (RLM). I was there alongside our 2026 South Carolina Leadership Team, members of Hilton Head Area Realtors, and Realtors from communities all across the state.
Many people think Realtors simply help people buy and sell homes, but our role in the community goes much deeper than that. Realtors are also strong advocates for property rights, homeownership, and responsible housing policies that impact families and communities throughout South Carolina.
Why Realtor Advocacy Matters
During our time at the State House, we had the opportunity to learn more about current legislative topics and housing-related issues impacting South Carolina residents.
Our meetings also allowed us to hear directly from our lobbyists, who work year-round to ensure that legislators understand the real-world impact of proposed policies on homeowners and communities.
Representing Our Local Communities
One of the most meaningful parts of this experience was attending alongside fellow members of Hilton Head Area Realtors, as well as Realtors from across the state. It was a great reminder that although we work in different markets, we all share the same goal: protecting the future of homeownership and supporting strong communities.

Looking Ahead
Experiences like this reinforce how important it is for Realtors to stay engaged beyond the transaction. Advocacy plays a key role in protecting property rights and ensuring that future generations have the opportunity to achieve the dream of homeownership.
I’m grateful to represent our local community and proud to work alongside so many dedicated professionals who care deeply about the future of housing in South Carolina.
If you have questions about the Hilton Head or Bluffton real estate market, local housing trends, or the buying and selling process, I’d love to help.
