Real Estate Advice That Belongs in the ’80s and What Actually Matters This Fall
Apparently, AI thinks I would have made a pretty fabulous Realtor in the 1980s.
The hair? Bigger.The shoulder pads? Questionable.The real estate advice? Thankfully, much more current. Back in the ’80s, house hunting looked a little different. No scrolling through listings from your couch. No virtual tours. No instant alerts when a home hit the market. And your Realtor definitely wasn’t making Instagram Reels about the best places to grab sushi in Lowcountry. But while some things are better left in the ’80s, one thing hasn’t changed: fall can be a really interesting time to make a move in the Lowcountry.
Buyers: Don't Assume You Missed Your Window
Summer gets a lot of attention around Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, but fall is one of my favorite times of year here. The crowds start thinning out, the weather gets beautiful, and buyers can get a much better feel for what everyday Lowcountry living is actually like.
Sellers: Fall Buyers Can Be Serious Buyers
There's an old-school idea that if you didn't list your home in spring, you should wait until next year. I'd put that advice right next to my 1980s hairspray. Fall buyers are often moving for a reason. They may be relocating, looking for a second home, planning for retirement, or hoping to be settled before the holidays or the new year. With fewer homes competing for attention, the right property properly priced and marketed can still stand out.
And Then There's Fall in the Lowcountry...
This is also the season when our communities become especially fun. Porches get decorated, pumpkins appear everywhere, oyster roasts start popping up, and some neighborhoods take Halloween decorating VERY seriously. It's one of those times of year when you realize buying a home isn't just about bedrooms, bathrooms, and square footage. You're choosing a lifestyle and a community, too.
